Mr. Dalwin Ashby Wentz, Jr. died on November 27, 2021, in Charlotte, NC due to complications following Covid 19. He was 98. Mr. Wentz was born on October 14, 1923, in Charlotte, NC to the late Dalwin Ashby and Marjorie Raymelle Wentz. He was graduated from Oakhurst High School, Charlotte, NC in 1942 and attended North Carolina State College, Raleigh, NC.
During World War II, Mr. Wentz proudly served in the Army Air Corps as a B-24 Flight Engineer from November 6, 1942, until June 27, 1945. He flew 42 missions in the South Pacific from March 12, 1944, until February 1, 1945.
He married Christine Matthews on June 8, 1946, in Raleigh, NC and was a lifelong resident of Charlotte, NC. He retired from the Southern Bell Telephone Company after 36 years.
He was devoted to and loved his church, Amity Presbyterian, in which he was baptized as a young child. He served as a Deacon and Elder and was primarily responsible for Buildings and Grounds.
He was preceded in death by his wife Christine, brothers, William and Earl; and his sister, Anna Mae Blackwelder. He is survived by his sons Alan (Linda) Wentz of Henrico, VA, and Timothy (Charlotte) Wentz of Charlotte, NC; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 N. Sharon Amity Rd., Charlotte, NC on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Amity Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 North Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28205.
