David Lacy

David Lacy, age 73, of Charlotte NC, passed away on September 5th. He was born on August 20th, 1948 in Kingston, PA to parents, F. Prentice and Elizabeth Lacy. He attended high school at Wyoming Seminary in Wilkes Barre, PA, then spent a year studying abroad in South Africa on a Rotary Exchange before attending Bucknell University, where he was the President of the student body and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He went on to earn a Masters in Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

David recently retired from a long and illustrious career in the field of Aging Services, specifically Continuing Care Retirement Communities. He served as President and CEO at Southminster in Charlotte for the final 20 years of his career.  He was honored to serve on numerous boards and foundations throughout his life and received several awards for his service, including the Leading Age North Carolina’s “Career Excellence Award for Lifetime Achievement”, the Leading Age North Carolina’s “Distinguished Service Award” and the United States Department of Defense “Medal for Distinguished Public Service”.

David was a loving and devoted family man. He coached both his son and daughter’s youth sports teams and never missed one of their tennis tournaments or horse shows. His favorite times were those spent with family – particularly the family’s annual beach trip where he’d enjoy time with all of his grandchildren. David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon, his daughter Brooke Lacy Stephens, her husband Justin, their children Jackson and Blair; his son Sean and his children Harrison and Greyson; his mother Elizabeth Lacy, sister Gail Lacy and Gail’s husband Donald Hughes. David was preceded in death by his sister Anne Lacy and his father, F. Prentice Lacy.
