Deany Karr Abernethy

Deany Karr Abernethy, 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Goose Creek, SC, on Tuesday, December 21, 2022.  Her daughter Kim, with whom she lived and her daughter, Kathy were with her for a number of weeks before her death.  Her health declined quickly and for the last three weeks, hospice was also involved with her care in the home.  
She was born in Chattanooga, TN on November 3, 1934, to the late David W. Karr and Fannie Quinn Karr.  They moved to Charlotte, NC in 1940 and she spent most of her life there before moving to Ocean Isle Beach and then to the Charleston area in her later years.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth M. Abernethy, her daughter, Rebecca M. Abernethy, her brother, Wendell L. Karr, and her son-in-law, Joseph W. Cox.
Deany graduated from Central High School and King’s Business College in Charlotte and worked for many years in administrative roles for attorneys, banks, and other companies.  She enjoyed music and singing in the choir at church and with other musical groups in Charlotte.  She was a very friendly and warm person, was a lot of fun to be with, loved her family and friends, and was always available for them. She was immensely loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathryn A. Cox of Holly Springs, NC, and Kimberly A. Kistler of Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren, Shane Wexel, Chase Wexel of Holly Springs, NC, Robert Cox (Sarah)of Wynantskill, NY, Logan Kistler of Charlotte, NC, Hannah Kistler of Charleston, SC; and great-granddaughters, Carly Federer (Travis) of Smithfield, NC and Elliot Kistler of Charlotte, NC.
On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, the family will receive friends at 1:00 pm at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, 101 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC  28213 with the funeral service following at 2:00. Burial will be held at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if you desire, the family requests that you donate in her name to the dog rescue of your choice (dachshunds were her favorite) or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
