Obituary

Eugene V. Sankowski, Jr, age 78, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2022 at his home in Charlotte, NC after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on March 14, 1944 in Hammond, IN to parents Eugene V. Sankowski, Sr and Ruth H. Sankowski; both preceded him in death, as well as his sister Sharon Gardner.

Gene is survived in life by his beloved wife of 49 years Patricia A. Sankowski; daughter Alexandra (Eric) Schott, his grandchildren Jacob and Lily Schott; sister Jeanne Marie (Keith) Watson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene worked as a Cost Accountant for Serta Mattress and Ludwig Drums in Chicago, IL.  He was twice transferred through his job at Ludwig, first to Elkhart, IN and finally to Charlotte, NC.

Gene was a proud “Papa” to his grandchildren, Jacob and Lily, whom he loved dearly.

An avid collector of American Flyer trains, Gene enjoyed creating train layouts and participating in train shows as a member of the Atlantic Coast S Gaugers and the Piedmont S Gaugers.
