Howard was born in High Point NC one of five children. He attended Appalachian State University and after college Howard joined the Marines where he became the Heavy Weight Golden Gloves champion. He never met a sport he didn’t like and made lifelong friends with his high school buddies where he earned the nick name Mac.

He is survived by his daughter Leisa, son in law Tom, and two grandchildren Rebecca and Elizabeth.

A memorial service will be held at East City Baptist Church (formerly East Baptist Church) on Saturday, April 2, at 1:00 6850 Monroe Road, Charlotte NC.
