James Richard Lee Dorton

James Richard Lee Dorton (RN) of Monroe, NC passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Jim was born in Oakland, California on May 6, 1946. Jim served in the United States Air Force with pride during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Dorton was a loving son, husband, father, brother and uncle. He worked, often with little rest, to provide for his parents and his other family members. His business accomplishments were many and he shared his success in great efforts to improve lives around him. Jim loved his dogs and other pets as true members of his family. Empathy and love of family were two of his most endearing qualities. Jim was close and supportive of each of his parents in every way through the end of their lives. Jim was much loved and will always be missed. 

He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife, Barbara Fink Dorton.

Mr. Dorton was predeceased by his first wife, Linette Dorton, parents, James R. Dorton and Lillie Belle Dorton and his nephew, Tom Schultz.

Jim Dorton is survived by the following loved ones:

Daughters  Kendra Dorton, Jamie Young (Tom) and Amy Bumgarner (Billy).

Stepdaughters: Emily Knight (Jeff) and Casey Victoria Knight

Grandchildren:  Everlee Rose Junker, Kyndall Faith Knight, Linette Gervato, Joce Myer, Aaron Brodowski, Riley Lewellen (Kourtni), Harlan Lewellen, Carson Young, Parker Norrie, Myranda Falk (Ricky), Gavin Norrie, Ava Bumgarner.

Great grandchildren: Tanner Brodowski, Raeleigh Gervato, Easton Meyer, Emma Meyer & Wren Piper Faulk.
