Rosemary Dundon Tate, 89, of Charlotte passed away peacefully on Nov. 30, 2022 in her home at the Pines on Carmel with her sister Carol and her niece Mary at her side. Rosemary was born August 7, 1933 in Youngstown, Ohio, to James and Mary (Strobel) Dundon, the 5th of 6 children. The light of her life was her son, Jimmy, whom she raised in Denver, Colorado, until she relocated to Charlotte in the 1980s.
Rosemary forged her way through life with a positive outlook and a story for everyone, friend or stranger. She was very close to her sisters, Louise Feeny and Carol Doyle, throughout her life, and they made sure she was not without family when her son died too young in 1992. Known affectionately as Ro, Aunt Ro, or Ro-Ro, stories about our Rosemary became legendary. She did things her own way, much to our exasperation at times, but always with enough love and tenderness to be forgiven, no matter what.
Rosemary worked as a secretary in the insurance field in her early years, and lived across the US and in England as an Air Force wife. One of her favorite stories from England was seeing Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip on base, where Prince Phillip said Jimmy was quite the “handsome nipper.”
In addition to her parents and Jimmy, Rosemary was predeceased by her brothers Bob (Jim) and Dan Dundon, and her sister Louise Feeny. Her brother Tom Dundon, of Florida, has also been an incredible support over the past three decades. Her little sister, Carol Doyle, her primary support for most of her life, will certainly miss her presence but has a lifetime of memories and adventures to keep her spirit alive. Rosemary also leaves 20 nieces and nephews across the US and too many great nieces and nephews to number.
The family is most grateful for the kindnesses shown to Rosemary by all of the medical professionals who supported her through her long-term illnesses and disabilities; we are especially indebted to the caregiving staff of the Pines on Carmel and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region for guiding her gently to the end of her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 1:15 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road in Charlotte.
